Team of Penn State Great Valley Students Excels at National Competition for Data Analysis

Five graduate students at Penn State Great Valley who call themselves the Analytical Assassins have won second place at Penn State’s DataFest, according to a report from Penn State News.

Ashish Chauhan, Jackie Markle, Harsha Polisetty, Karpagalakshmi Rajagopalan, and Dhara Thakkar are all students in the Master of Professional Studies in Data Analytics program who took part in the national event held with the American Statistical Association.

The competition gives teams of two to five students 48 hours to find meaning in large and complex datasets. This year, 77 teams registered to compete.

The Analytical Assassins ware tasked with providing advice or insight to job-seekers based on a dataset they were given from Indeed.com.

“We were able to quickly load and read the huge data through libraries in R that are especially useful for reading such datasets,” said Rajagopalan.

After 48 mostly sleepless hours, the team delivered a three-minute presentation summarizing its findings to a panel of judges comprised of faculty and industry professionals.
