Fractured Prune, the made-to-order doughnut chain and franchise, officially opened its doors in Bradford Plaza outside West Chester on June 5, writes Michael Klein for Philly.com.

Fractured Prune’s owners are Brandy Bell-Truskey, a former TV news reporter who now works in media relations for a large corporation, and her husband, Tom Truskey, who owns an HVAC company. However they freely admit they had no idea what they were getting themselves into.

“We’d been kind of talking about doing something else, doing something different, something together, as a family,” said Bell-Truskey.

The pair and their two children got the idea when they first tried Fractured Prune doughnuts in Ocean City and loved them.

“We were like, ‘Wow. What is this?’” recalled Bell-Truskey. “We started talking. Doughnuts are fun. It’s family fun. Our kids are super excited about it, and so … here we are.”

The couple plans to keep their day jobs, and leave the day-to-day operations to the children’s babysitter, Nichole King.

Fractured Prune specializes in custom-made hot cake doughnuts along with coffee and other drinks. The doughnuts cost $3.99 for two, $8.99 for six, and $14.99 for 12. The store opens daily at 7 A.M.
