The CCEDC has announced two new programs designed to inspire youth to consider careers in healthcare and technology.

This summer, youth interested in entrepreneurship and technology can enroll in the new Be Your Own Boss Entrepreneur and Technology Program. This program runs from June 18-22 and is designed to provide students with business skills required to support their entrepreneurial spirit to launch technology-based businesses.

Healthcare Connect Academy, a year-long high school program with a pre-college internship experience and summer camp for middle school students, was launched in January 2018. The program has already enrolled 70 students, with just a few spaces left for new enrollment.

Friends Association for the Care and Protection of Children

The CCFWG has awarded a grant to the Friends Association that the latter will use for direct program expenses for the three programs in its Homeless to Independence Initiative.

The Friends Association works with families in Chester County in accessing emergency benefits, permanent housing, education, and assistance.

“More than 780 children and their parents experience homelessness in Chester County each year with an additional 1,900 children and their parents facing eviction,” said Catherine Friedman, Executive Director of the Friends Association. “We are grateful for the support from Chester County Fund for Women and Girls. Together, we are working to eliminate homelessness in Chester County.”

Vanguard

The Malvern investment giant will receive $90 million from Vereit, the successor of American Realty Capital Partners, as part of a 2016 lawsuit settlement, writes Joseph DiStefano for the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The suit alleged that the founder of American Realty Capital Partners and his executives stole close to $1 billion from their own company, creating a drop in the value of Vanguard’s investment.

Vanguard’s suit alleges that the fraud “was orchestrated by top executives” at the company, one of the largest real estate investment trusts nationwide. The suit then goes on to claim that the company’s founder “transferred hundreds of millions of dollars to entities controlled by him and other senior insiders” in 2013 and 2014.
