Malvern-Based Acme Markets to Close Three Stores in Region
Acme Markets, the Malvern-based chain of grocery stores, will close three stores in the region on June 8, writes Natalie Kostelni for the Philadelphia Business Journal.
The 240 employees working at the stores closing in King of Prussia, Lansdale, and Dover, Del., will have the opportunity to work at other nearby stores if positions are available.
“Closing a store is always a tough decision, but we are focused on growing our business and reinvesting those resources into our existing stores, along with aggressively exploring new sites,” said Acme spokeswoman Dana Ward.

She said that Acme is always reevaluating its store portfolio and examining every angle of the business.
“These stores have not met our goals for a number of years, and we have made the decision to deploy the teams and resources to other locations,” she said.
The three stores are victim to the growing competition in the area. In addition to already existing Walmart, Shop-Rite, Giant, and Weiss stores, the area recently welcomed discount chains Lidl and Aldi, as well as a new Whole Foods.
