Conestoga High School graduate Brendon Little has found his comfort zone since he joined the Chicago Cubs’ organization, writes Mark Gonzales for the Chicago Tribune.

Little, the team’s first pick in the 2017 draft, is particularly grateful to be pitching under coaches who deliver the same message in the minor leagues.

“The toughest thing was having a different pitching coach every year,” said Little. “Each pitching coach had a different philosophy. It’s nice to settle down and have a game plan for multiple years.”

After graduating from Conestoga, Little chose not to sign with the San Francisco Giants as their 35th-round pick. Instead, he attended North Carolina, where he only pitched four innings in his one year with the Tar Heels. After transferring to the State College of Florida last year, though, he returned to a starting role.

His success in Florida put him on the Cubs’ radar, and they made him the 27th pick of last year’s draft.

“When all things are clicking, he throws 90 to 95 mph with life at the plate,” said Jason McLeod, the Cubs’ senior vice president of scouting and player development. “He can really spin a breaking ball, which the scouting industry saw last year.”
