Donor’s Challenge Grant Results in $100,000 of Support for Delaware County Community College

By

As outlined in the Spring 2018 edition of yourConnection, a newsletter for alumni and friends of Delaware County Community College, the college is fortunate to have donors who make major commitments to its Educational Foundation that result in a doubling of their gifts.

Like any challenge grant, time is of the essence because they are to be matched within a specific time frame to help create urgency for the campaign.

An anonymous donor who has been supporting undocumented students for the past three years pledged support of $50,000 if his gift were matched by the end of the fiscal year, June 30, 2018.

Since undocumented students are not eligible for financial aid, their monetary needs are frequently greater than the average student.

In December, a grant of $50,000 from the Scholler Foundation for undocumented students was received to provide the necessary match to secure the anonymous donor’s $50,000.

The college’s donors champion the benefits of a Delaware County Community College education. It is less expensive than most four-year colleges and has the same availability of scholarships and financial aid. It offers associate degrees in high-demand fields like STEM and healthcare. Smaller class sizes mean more personalized attention for students. And campus life at Delaware County Community College offers the same extracurricular and networking activities offered by many four-year colleges.
