A number of doctors and STEM professionals are seeking political office, arguing they have the training and skills needed at a time of increasingly complex challenges and growing political polarization, write Ben Guarino and Laurie McGinley in The Washington Post.

Among the candidates is Devon resident Chrissy Houlahan, a Stanford-educated engineer and a former Air Force Reserve captain and teacher.

Houlahan served as chief operating officer of AND1, a basketball apparel and footwear brand, and is the founding COO of B Lab, a nonprofit that promotes good business practices.

Houlahan, a Democrat, said she was “shocked and dismayed” when Donald Trump won the presidential election.

She is campaigning for the chance to take on Ryan Costello, a two-term Republican Congressman. Houlahan said Washington needs more scientists, people who are trained to solve problems using facts and data.
