The Bogleheads Celebrate 20 Years of Devotion to Vanguard’s Founder

By

The Bogleheads, a national group of investors who follow the low-cost investing philosophy of Vanguard founder John Bogle, are celebrating their 20th anniversary, writes Erin Arvedlund in the Philadelphia Inquirer.

The group, started in 1998, has chapters around the country and holds an annual meeting, which sells out quickly because it features Bogle himself as the main speaker.

Since 2009, the annual meeting has been held in Philadelphia to accommodate Bogle, now 88. The last meeting was held in October 2017.

“I give a presentation of some length,” Bogle said. “The first day, I do an annual review, an update on data, I showed some of the stuff in the press this year, and on the markets. And then I talk about what I’ve been writing and speaking about, and some of it is very personal and braggy.”

The Philadelphia-area chapter of the Bogleheads meets about four times a year. Its members come from Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Delaware, and Maryland.

Vanguard, the Malvern-based investment giant, was started by Bogle in 1975. Today, it has more than $4.5 trillion in assets under management.
