While Chester County has recorded 70 cases of the flu between Oct. 1 and Dec. 23, neighboring Berks County remains near the top of Pennsylvania counties with 345, writes Matthew Nojiri for the Reading Eagle.

The only county that has a higher number of recorded flu cases this season is Allegheny County with 378.

The flu continues to pick up across the state with 1,150 cases recorded in a recent week. This is a significant increase from about 800 the prior week. So far, this season, Pennsylvania has seen 3,516 positive flu tests, thus putting the state in the “widespread” category.

However, according to the Health Department, this represents only a fraction of the total, as many people do not get tested.

It’s expected that anywhere between 600,000 and 2.4 million Pennsylvanians will get the flu this year, with between 120 and 2,000 dying from complications with the virus.

Other nearby counties have reported lower numbers, including Montgomery with 137 and Lancaster with 115.
