Chester County Couple Issues Fundraising Challenge for Colonial Theatre
An anonymous couple in Chester County has issued a matching grant challenge of $100,000 to benefit the Colonial Theatre in Phoenixville, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.
The two said that if the Colonial manages to raise $100,000 for its “Bank on the Arts” capital campaign by May 31, they will match the funds.
“We’ve had strong responses from our members to previous challenges,” said Mary Foote, Executive Director of the Association for the Colonial Theatre. “These have helped stimulate gifts ranging from $5 to $45,000 to the campaign.”

Last May, the Colonial opened a new wing, with two new theatres, a new lobby area, and a rental suite with a rooftop deck. The expansion officially began seven years ago, when the Colonial purchased the building next door for $750,000.
Since the upgrade, the Colonial is able to show three to five films a week, including first-run art and independent films.
“This $100,000 challenge grant is an invitation to donors and business leaders to invest in a demonstrated success,” said Marian Moskowitz, Board President for the Association for the Colonial Theatre.
