West Chester’s A. Duie Pyle is one of the companies leading the way in reducing the gender gap among truckers, writes Aaron Huff for Commercial Carrier Journal.

According to a study last year by Women in Trucking, women only made up seven percent of truck drivers and 24 percent of managers in the trucking industry. However, thanks to the efforts of companies like A. Duie Pyle, the latest statistics should begin to show some change.

Five years ago, the transportation and logistics provider revisited its training and advancement programs. The aim was to create a better career path for leadership positions by creating more career advancement opportunities.

“We started looking deeper to see who is in the organization and who can be qualified for these type of things,” said Chief Operating Officer Randy Swart.

This led to a training program that identifies two or three people who could be potential leaders and sending them for six months of training. And while increasing the number of women in management was not the goal, it has turned out to be the case.
