A Lincoln University-based startup has figured out how to use goats to clear land from invasive plants in an environmentally and eco-friendly way, writes Jeff Neiburg for the Wilmington News Journal.

The goats “employed” by Green Grazer Goats are happy to eat up any weeds, brush, or even poison ivy, creating an ideal alternative to more environmentally harmful methods like herbicides.

The startup was launched in May by Oxford High School graduate Kalyn Butt and her boyfriend Kevin Conner. In fact, Butt received her first goat for her 16th birthday, after she was intrigued by people who were using goats to clear land.

“I had this harebrained, teenage mind,” said Butt. “I was like, ‘That’s a great idea. I’m going to do that one day.’”

After graduating with a degree in behavioral sciences from Wilmington University, she finally got to realize her dream with the startup.

During its soft launch, the company has already completed 17 jobs, primarily in the Kennett Square and Landenberg area. The pricing for jobs is usually between $400 and $800, depending on property size and the extent of the brush.
