Schuylkill River Nonprofit Looking for Private Outfitter to Create Recreational Hub
The Schuylkill River Greenways National Heritage Area, a Pottstown-based nonprofit, is looking for a private outfitter to establish a recreational hub system along the river via its existing water and bike trails, writes Donna Rovins for the Daily Local News.
Elaine Schaefer, Executive Director of the organization formerly known as the Schuylkill River Heritage Area, said a partner is being sought to help provide access to kayak, canoe, and bike rentals, refreshment points, and reliable transportation between the different points of access.
“We’re looking for a partner who shares our vision of what can happen on the river over the next five years, with the capacity and drive to make it happen,” said Schaefer.

She said that organic growth is already happening, but the organization wants to make sure it happens in an organized way.
“Rather than to passively wait for the market to respond to a growing interest in outdoor recreation, we determined that we should provide catalytic support to attract the right entrepreneur,” she said.
The organization is accepting letters of interest until Dec. 8.
