Coatesville resident Carol Houck and her daughter Emily Carlisle have solved a decades-old mystery of two class rings found at Downingtown High School, writes Ukee Washington for CBS Philly.

The rings were found in 1997 by Houck’s then-husband, while he was cleaning the school. One of them was a 1994 Purdue University ring engraved with the name Kathleen L. Bancroft. The second was a 1990 Downingtown High School ring stamped with the initials GFM.

Over time, the rings were packed away and forgotten, but Houck found them during a recent move.

After an Internet search, Carlisle found a Kathleen Bancroft Magsam in Kentucky. Carlisle messaged her and discovered she went to Purdue and had lost her ring. The owner of the second ring was also nearby as it was Magsam’s husband.

Geoff Francis Magsam (GFM) and his wife had lived in Chester County until six years ago, when they moved outside Lexington.

“Not only have we found both owners, but they’re married!” said Houck. “And it was just their 20th anniversary.”
