Lynn Elliott, a volunteer training specialist at the Valley Forge-based Girl Scouts of Eastern Pennsylvania, is ensuring that troop leaders are equipped with the skills to lead, writes Courtney Diener-Stokes for the Reading Eagle.

While being a part of Girl Scouts comes with a lot of fun, the organization’s USA programming offers much more as it keeps evolving to meet the needs of today’s girls.

Elliott is there to assist with the process, and to ensure troop leaders have a diverse set of skills to offer.

“It is being friendly and kind and using our resources wisely,” she said.

With over three decades of experience in environmental education, Elliott has developed a nature series for the troop leaders as part of the organization’s outdoors push. The program has five different topics of outdoor education, including stream study, insects, nature walk, trees, and “take your troop outdoors.”

“They are all about helping your leaders be comfortable in the outdoors, so they are more comfortable taking their troops outdoors,” said Elliott.
