FROM MONTCO: County’s Visitation, Consumer Spending Tops in Philadelphia Suburbs

The latest numbers for the 12-month fiscal period reflect a 3.2 percent increase in visitor spending in Montgomery County. The report places Montgomery County first among the Philadelphia region's suburban counties with a 49 percent share of the total visitor spending across the four suburban Philadelphia counties.

The Valley Forge Tourism and Convention Board posted a record year for the 12-month fiscal period that ended on June 30.

The latest numbers shared by Tourism Economics reflect a 3.2 percent increase in visitor spending in Montgomery County.

The $1.5 billion in total spending in Montco ranks first among the Philadelphia region’s suburban counties with a 49 percent share of the $3.7 billion total visitor spending across Montgomery, Chester, Bucks, and Delaware counties.

The VFTCB sales division exceeded year-over-year goals, achieving a 4.6 percent positive variance over the prior fiscal year.

“With significant hotel supply growth throughout the entire Greater Philadelphia region and more new hotel development in the pipeline, our sales and marketing efforts will be of vital importance to maintain momentum,” said Lisa Karl, Vice President of Sales and Strategic Partnerships at the VFTCB.

“By focusing on our top producing, overnight-stay-generating brands – Valley Forge Sports and Revolutionary Events – we plan to promote our destination as the most attractive destination for meetings, events, and sports tourism in the Mid-Atlantic Region.”

The VFTCB sees the positive impact when measuring the analytics of their website and multiple social media channels on an ongoing basis.

“The interest level in our branded content is at an all-time high for the organization,” said Ed Harris, VFTCB’s Vice President of Marketing and Communications.

Page views on ValleyForge.org surpassed 2.1 million, representing a 50 percent increase compared to last year’s 12-month total, and followers on the Visit Valley Forge Facebook page have grown by 22 percent.

“Our team here is very data driven and digital savvy,” said Harris. “Every day, we’re using a segmented approach within the digital landscape to share a wide range of unique and exciting things to do, and people are responding.”
