Toting modern technology and youthful muscle to the best spots on the beach, locally backed Beach Caddy is setting up for another big season of success.
The app that summons high school- and college-aged muscle to move recreational gear to and from the beach is kicking up sand along new stretches of the Jersey shore and dipping into promising startup territory, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Diane Mastrull.
“Wherever there’s a body of water and people are actively enjoying it, there will be Beach Caddy,” said West Chester investor Dave Rivell, who just acquired a 10 percent stake in Beach Caddy last month by partnering with Radnor co-founder Todd Serpico.
“What we’re most proud of is helping people enjoy the beach and taking the stress out of the beach-going experience,” Serpico said. “Literally, dads hug our caddies.”
Beach Caddy is quadrupling its presence this summer by expanding from Ocean City to Avalon, Stone Harbor, and Sea Isle City.
“This is absolutely the evolution of a startup,” said Barbara Bigford, the Entrepreneur-in-Residence at the Villanova University Innovation, Creativity, and Entrepreneurship Institute. “They’re smack on track with many other startup companies that are successful. They’re getting themselves out there.”
