Philly Taxes, Regulations Push West Chester’s Magrogan Group to Focus on Suburbs

An anti-business climate in Philadelphia is serving up opportunities for the suburbs to taste more from the Dave Magrogan Group.

The West Chester-based restaurant group isn’t reopening its lone remaining Philly restaurant, Harvest Seasonal Grill & Wine Bar, according to a Philadelphia Inquirer report by Michael Klein.

“Paid sick leave, city wage tax, the soda tax, and other city regulations make it a much more difficult business environment, compared to our suburban locations,” Magrogan said.

His Harvest restaurants still “dot the suburbs, where its target audiences are health-conscious families, professionals, and senior citizens,” the report explained, and Magrogan is investing money there.

“I think I have matured past trying to push uphill against excessive taxes, regulations, and higher cost of construction,” he said. “Less expensive to build, operate, and grow business in the suburbs.”
