Despite temperatures lower than expected, Marsh Creek Outfitters is enjoying the start of another fun and exciting water sports season at Chester County’s Marsh Creek State Park, writes Pete Bannan for the Daily Local News.

“We opened Easter Sunday when it was 80 degrees; we were packed,” said manager Steve Wanger.

The company, owned by Mike Biffel, has been at Marsh Creek for nearly three decades and is finding that the most popular thing right now is paddle boards, mostly because it only takes a few minutes of instruction before visitors are able to maneuver quickly around the lake.

Paddle boats and kayaks are usually sent out into the wind as “it makes coming back easier,” said Jake Schaff, waterfront coordinator. Also available for rent are kayaks, sailboats, paddleboats, small motorboats, and canoes with prices ranging from $30 to $75 an hour.

Marsh Creek Outfitters also runs a summer camp for children, ages 6-16, that runs from June to August. And on days when the wind is good, the company offers sailing lessons.

“We will ask ahead of time about a renter’s skill level, what they sailed before,“ said Wanger.
