Thousands of commuters who make the daily trek between West Chester and Wilmington might soon have an alternative travel option if the proposed express bus line between the two locations becomes reality, writes Karl Baker for The Wilmington News Journal.

In a recent report, the Delaware Valley Regional Planning Commission identified a strong potential demand for public transit options between Chester and New Castle counties. The report offered several alternatives, but mainly focused on the creation of an express bus route along U.S. 202.

With close to 14,600 daily commuters on the proposed line in 2013, more Chester County residents travel to work in New Castle County than to Philadelphia. In the same year, around 6,500 New Castle County residents travelled in the opposite direction to their jobs in Chester County.

While the report presents transit options and their potential benefits, DVRPC spokeswoman Elise Turner emphasized that it needs transit and other elected officials or even private companies to start advocating for it.

“You need someone to be a champion and a leader for this,” she said.
