New York Times Talks Treehouse Construction with West Chester’s Tree Top Builders
Joe Davino, 20, of West Chester’s Tree Top Builders has known he wanted to work in construction ever since he was a kid, and is fulfilling this ambition by building children their dream treehouse, writes Patricia Olsen for The New York Times.
Davino studied carpentry at a vocational-technical high school, where he scored his highest grades in the carpentry program. He got the confidence to apply to Tree Top Builders from being a salutatorian of his graduating class and coming third in a national carpentry competition.
A lot of the joy of his work comes from the fact that children get so excited about the structure that they cannot stay away, even with the construction still in-progress.
“By the time their treehouse is three-quarters done, they can’t stay away,” said Davino. “Sometimes, at around 5 on a Saturday, when we finally finish, put our tools away and sweep the floor of the treehouse, they climb up. A parent has to come out, and make them climb down for dinner because they won’t go in on their own.”
