WCCCC Newsletter: New Rail Line Spurs Modena Waste Oil Recyclers’ Mission

By

Local dignitaries including state Rep. Harry Lewis Jr. and state Sen. Andy Dinniman for last month’s ribbon cutting event celebrating the new rail spur.

The entire business model of Modena’s Waste Oil Recyclers focuses on environmental stewardship, and a new rail spur recently laid down even more benefits.

With an extension of rail line from nearby ArcelorMittal, Waste Oil Recyclers is on track to replace eight truck trips to Erie each week with a shipment of two tank cars filled with local restaurants’ and cafeterias’ waste vegetable oil, according to ribbon-cutting coverage in the Western Chester County Chamber of Commerce’s newsletter, Western View.

The Erie destination is the Hero BX refinery, where the waste oil is processed into renewable biodiesel.

“It’s better than diesel for the environment,” President Jim Bricker said in the article. “We do millions of gallons a year.”

And if the transportation savings bolsters Waste Oil Recyclers’ business, there’s room on the new rail spur to double that weekly capacity with up to four tankers.

Local dignitaries recognized the potential the railroad expansion brings, as state Rep. Harry Lewis Jr. and state Sen. Andy Dinniman attended the ribbon-cutting event.
