If you see a man walking a goat walking along the rural roads of Chester County over the next few days on’t be surprised. The strange pair is on a trans-continental journey to raise funds for orphans, writes Fran Maye for Daily Local News.

Steve Wescott and his goat Miles will be passing through several Chester County towns including West Grove, Avondale and Kennett Square to raise funds and awareness for an orphanage in Nairobi, Kenya.

Miles, Wescott’s Alpine goat, has been on the trip with him for the last 1,000 miles to help the orphanage, which was started by Wescott’s best friend, Stephen Turner. They have so far raised over $100,000 to expand the orphanage.

“Everyone here has been so incredibly kind, so incredibly friendly,” especially in Rising Sun and West Grove,” said Wescott.

Tim Smith, owner of Twelves Restaurant and Grill in West Grove, has invited Wescott to stop by Tuesday, adding that he is “100 percent behind the cause.”

He was also welcomed as a celebrity at Jackson ImmunoResearch Labs in Jennersville, where some wondered if his goat was part of a science project.

Wescott said he has been humbled by the kindness afforded to him by the people he has met along the way.

“People are constantly asking me to stay at their house and I rarely sleep outside anymore,” Wescott noted.
