Tom Musser accepted the CCEDC’s induction last week at the Phoenixville Foundry.

Thomas Musser, the co-founder of Tri-M LLC in Kennett Square, is the latest inductee into the Chester County Business Hall of Fame, writes Brian McCullough for the Daily Local News.

Modestly deflecting credit while speaking in front of the crowd of over 400 business leaders who had gathered at the Phoenixville Foundry to witness his induction, Musser said the secret to success is to “build a great team.”

“The Tri-M team is the important one here,” he noted, adding that “as the team grew, the company slowly grew, but all the way along through the 50 years it’s been a team effort.”

The Chester County Economic Development Council praised Musser’s work in transforming the former two-man electrical contracting company into a giant with over 400 employees and for turning it into one of the leading electrical solutions providers in the eastern U.S., with clients such as DuPont, JP Morgan Chase, and Comcast.

The CCEDC also noted that Musser, just as previous inductees, does not only excel in business but is also a significant contributor to the local community. In addition to holding executive positions with the Associated Builders and Contractors, Musser is chairman of the board of the National Federation of Independent Business, vice chair of the U.S. Naval Institute, and has served on the Department of Defense Advisory Board for Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve.

Musser, a Navy veteran, is also a former president of the Kennett Square Rotary Club, and has served in a number of regional board positions which include the Brandywine Valley YMCA, Kennett Area YMCA, Chester County Hospital Foundation and Southern Chester County Chamber of Commerce.

Among the highlights of the event was a video compiled by QVC, which showcased those who have benefitted from Musser’s philanthropy and business wisdom. Chester County Commissioners’ Chairman Terence Farrell also took the opportunity to thank Musser for his decades of support.

Musser “has been a supporter and a colleague and a friend and a mentor to me,” he said. “He sets a goal for all of us.”
