New York City seems to be losing some of its celebrities to West Chester based QVC, writes Jeanette Settembre for the New York Daily News.

The latest is actress and “Real Housewife” Lisa Rinna, who has turned to the money-making giant to sell her collection of comfortable clothing. Last week she joined “Today” show correspondent Jill Martin, designer Dennis Basso, and co-host Brad Goreski for a roundtable event at the shopping network’s West Chester retail complex that delivers live content at a rapid pace.

“It’s like sitting courtside at a Knicks game,” said Martin.

Launched three decades ago, QVC has grown into an $8.7 billion business which broadcasts to around 350 million homes around the globe. The shopping giant has helped launch the careers of many celebrities including Shark Tank’s Lori Greiner and Mike Rowe, the host of “Dirty Jobs”. It has also been the key selling platform for some of the nation’s favorite brands, such as Junior’s Cheesecake and the George Foreman grill.

Part talk show and part reality television, the profitable 24-hour business’s hosts woo audiences in their home, a somewhat tricky task as often they have less than five minutes to work their magic. These live shows make for adrenaline fuelled onscreen time and behind the scenes is no different. The celebrity sellers spend their downtime gossiping about the latest “Real Housewives”, taking late-night trips to Outback Steakhouse, and sometimes even managing to get some shuteye on air mattresses.

“Starbucks is a godsend!” notes Rinna, who flies from Los Angeles to West Chester at least once a month to sell customers clothing items from her namesake clothing collection.

To be successful in this kind of environment, you need to be a good conversationalist. “Steals and Deals” host Martin, a five-year QVC veteran, certainly seems to have what it takes, as she managed to sell an astounding 50,000 wrap belts from her G.I.L.I. line that cost $86 each in just 24 hours.
