After a lot of speculation and anticipation, the Westtown Amish Market finally ended the wait and opened its doors a week before the start of the New Year.

Located in the Westtown Village Shopping Center inside the former Acme building, the market is a delight for any lover of Pennsylvania Dutch food and was truly worth the wait, writes TheTownDish.com’s Ed Williams, in a review published by the Daily Local News.

The market was awash in visitors from day one, as people came in droves happy to get their hands on some farm fresh meat and ready to bake crab cakes.

“We’re glad we designed the aisles wider than originally planned because of the crowds, but we can always hope for more traffic,” said Amos Stoltzfus in the Town Dish profile.

“We’re glad we designed the aisles wider than originally planned because of the crowds, but we can always hope for more traffic,” Amos Stoltzfus, the farmer who was responsible for building and overseeing the entire business, told The Town Dish. “Everyone seems excited that we’re part of the neighborhood.”

The visitors included a delightfully mixed crowd as young families with toddlers walked by middle aged couples browsing the produce on display. Meanwhile, senior citizens and grandparents meandered past small groups of teens who were there to partake in the excitement.

The market has been built inside the large high ceilinged open space, refurbished using lighter colored wood tones to make sure the space truly feels like a farm-stand. Its simplicity works in its favor as the majority of the people working the stands are dressed in traditional Amish garb, giving the space a true Lancaster County ambience.

At close to 25,000 square feet, the space is host to a variety of businesses including among many others, Old Barn Candies and Bulk Foods, Stoltzfus Fresh and BBQ Poultry, Sugartown Smoked Specialties, and Capt’n Chucky’s Crab Cake Co.

“It’s definitely an enjoyable experience,” enthused Ellen Rulon, who joined her daughters and grandsons to visit the market from West Chester’s Chatwood neighborhood. “It’s like a year-round harvest time here with the farm fresh eggs, meats, vegetables and fruit.”
