Thanks to the relatively mild weather and the lack of a major snowfall, the Sunnybrook Ballroom is bustling with activity as the work on the construction and renovation of the historic venue continues unimpeded.

As a result, the majority of the work is expected to be finished by March 4th when the invitation-only grand opening is scheduled to take place, and the current timing anticipates that the venue will be open to public on March 5th, writes Donna Rovins for Daily Local News.

The renovations came after the Sunnybrook Foundation signed an agreement with Stokesay Castle owner, Jack Gulati, and the Gulati family, with Sunnybrook LLC formed to manage and operate the facility.

The groundbreaking for the new wing was in June, but the work really took off in August, and while the restaurant and the bar have been closed since the beginning of the project, the ballroom has been open for events.

On Tuesday, General Manager Luis Pereira provided a tour for the Mercury in Pottstown, giving guests a sneak peak of the venue and during the tour he pointed out that “the weather has been very helpful as we’ve been working.”

The new wing will replace the section that needed to be demolished due to damage, and will create a new two-story, 15,000 square foot space. According to Pereira, the biggest part of the outside work has been completed, but there is still a lot to do on the interior.

“Things are going very well, and we are looking forward to the opening,” said Charles Gulati, the President of Sunnybrook, adding that while the project is still slightly behind what was originally projected, the company is making sure that things are being done correctly.

“We want to do it right. The biggest delay for us is that we wanted to make sure that everything was done right. So if we found a problem, we fixed it or replaced it, we didn’t just make a patch.”

Gulati also said that thanks to the grant and renovations, the investment will be worth nearly $3 million once the project is completed. Not only that, but once the work is finished, the venue will need around 75 employees for a variety of new positions. Open interviews for these opportunities are being held on Tuesdays this month from 2 to 6 p.m.
