For people struggling to decide on a new location to move to but find lists that only name the best cities too constrictive, the Huffington Post has published a list of the top ten best counties in the U.S., with Chester County securing fourth place.  

Real estate site, Movoto, compiled the helpful list with a less specific and more ‘general area with a lot to offer’ criteria in mind.

“We looked at 640 counties across the US in order to create this ranking,” said Movoto’s Editorial Content Manager, Randy Nelson, to The Huffington Post. “We scored each in terms of unemployment, median household income, median rent and home price (higher being more desirable), percent of families below the poverty line and high school graduation rate. The average of these scores was used to determine the best counties, the higher the better.”

By combining all of these scores, the site then compiled the list of areas that have “earned the right to be called the best in the nation.”

Coming ahead of Washington County in Minnesota and Morris and Somerset Counties in New Jersey, Chester County did not rank outside of the top 60 in any of the categories used for determining the rankings, which is quite a feat considering that over 600 places were examined.

Only three counties found themselves ahead of Chester County: Virginia’s Loudoun County in first and Fairfax County in third place and Colorado’s Douglas County in second.

Chester County got its high ranking due, in part, to its low poverty rate and high income potential for new residents. The county also boasts an impressively low unemployment rate of just above 3 percent. In addition, people who enjoy spending their free time relaxing in nature are happy to know that there are three different state parks within fairly easily reach.
