After months of waiting and failed compromises, the commonwealth has not one but two new opportunities to end the state budget stalemate. With a Senate budget bill ready for consideration as early as Wednesday, the Pennsylvania House of Representatives is whipping up a solution of its own. Debate and a vote were set for Tuesday, according to a Daily Local News report.
The House proposal calls for a $30.3 billion budget, half a billion dollars less than the budget approved by the Senate on Monday.
While the Senate version calls for cigarette tax hikes and a banking tax change, “House Republicans say they’d impose tobacco taxes, tax lottery winnings and get other revenue from gambling to make their plan add up,” the article stated.
