To meet the ever growing needs of local businesses, the Delaware County Community College has partnered with the Manufacturing Alliance of Chester and Delaware Counties to offer employees of Alliance member organizations tuition-free courses, starting in January next year.
Over 100 manufacturing-related competency based classes are being offered at the College, and employees of the active member companies of the industry-led Alliance can enroll in any of them without having to pay tuition.
The Manufacturing Alliance, which promotes the growth of the manufacturing industry by providing workforce and economic development services to partnering companies, believes that this will represent huge cost saving for the member companies, but even more importantly, will allow them to hire entry-level employees by improving and developing the skills of their current workforce.
“Currently, there are more than 2,800 well paying, manufacturing-related positions available in this region. Manufacturers are concerned with the lack of skilled employees to support growth and the replacement of their retirement-age employees,” commented Karen Kozachyn, Dean of Workforce Development and Community Education at the College. “This is one of the innovative ways the College is helping area manufacturers.”
