Chester County Students Que Up To Participate In Cool Manufacturing Video Contest

By

Young video editing enthusiasts from Chester County should get ready for action, as the Manufacturing Alliance of Chester and Delaware Counties is holding a video contest in collaboration with local school districts, industry representatives, and the Chester County Intermediate Unit.

The contest, with the title “What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?” is aimed at dispelling the picture many people have of manufacturing as boring and dirty work which is often dangerous, and instead show the interesting and clean environment dominating the high tech manufacturing facilities of today.

Teams of ninth grade students from local schools throughout the districts will each get a GoPro camera kit and join their teacher for a visit to one of the regions nearby manufacturing companies.

During the visit, the teams will shoot different segments which will then be edited into two minute videos that embody what they found cool and interesting about the company, its products, workforce, and technology.

The contest will finish with an awards ceremony which is planned for April 6th next year. During the ceremony, the hard work of the students will be celebrated, with their efforts and critical findings being rewarded with a variety of trophies, certificates, and medals. During the ceremony there will also be presentations on the exemplary work of the students accompanied by the finished videos and other images taken recorded during the contest.

The schools participating in the contest are Phoenixville Area High School, West Chester – Henderson High School, Oxford Area High School, Great Valley High School, Avon Grove High School, Octorara Area High School, and the Downingtown STEM Academy.

The companies that will open their doors to students and help them see manufacturing in a new light are CNC Manufacturing, Acero Precision, USSC Group, Southco, Aerzen USA, Omega Design, and Hillside Custom.
