Berwyn’s Sweet Jazmines Bakery Finalist In National Food Fanatics Awards
A sweet treats bakery in Berwyn has tasted sweet success by serving up a finalist in a nationwide competition of the most passionate food creators. Kimberly Davis Cuthbert of Sweet Jazmines Bakery beat out 1,000 others to earn a top five spot in the Best Bite category of the inaugural US Foods Food Fanatics Awards with her OMG Sweet Potato Cinnamon Bun.
The name comes from the Chester County customers who sampled the innovative pastry; “each person would mention some version of ‘Oh my God,’” Cuthbert said in a recent Daily Local News report.
And it lives up to the Best Bite philosophy: “Nearly everyone orders it, whether they’re regulars or have come out of the way just for this dish. It’s worth standing in the long line or waiting months for a reservation just to be blown away by this one bite.”
“We created the Food Fanatics Awards to recognize those at the heart of the foodservice industry who are doing amazing — even fanatical — things,” US Foods Vice President of Marketing Marshall Warkentin said.
“We understand the dedication it takes to succeed in this industry, and these awards give us the opportunity to celebrate accomplishments large and small and shine a spotlight on the passionate few that go above and beyond.”
Sweet Jazmines’ secret weapon is the humble sweet potato — the bakery uses 80 pounds of sweet potatoes a week for its menu items — and a commitment to baking from scratch with natural ingredients.
“I have sensitive taste buds and can sense anything artificial,” Cuthbert said in the article. “So what we make has to taste great first. Then it has to look good too.”
Cuthbert’s roots in cooking up great food span decades.
“I easily wore out two or three Easy-Bake ovens as a little girl,” she said. “My parents both cooked, and it was a focal point in the family.”
She grew up in Wayne and attended Conestoga High School before venturing out to the Culinary Institute of America and starting Sweet Jazmines.
