Local Girl Scouts took a step beyond learning about homelessness by joining Bridge of Hope Lancaster & Chester Counties in crafting personalized homelessness awareness posters for National Hunger and Homelessness Awareness Week starting Monday.

The “Take Time: Tell 5!”-themed posters made by the 11 girls of Honey Brook’s Junior Girl Scout Troop 1441 will be on display for the week at the Brandywine YMCA, Chester County Library in Exton, the Downingtown office of Rep. Harry Lewis Jr., the Twin Valley School District and the Honey Brook Library.

The Girl Scouts also earned homelessness awareness merit badges through a homelessness awareness quiz and activities, a presentation by Bridge of Hope’s program director and interns, and a food drive they spearheaded for the program’s families. The faith-based nonprofit helps single mothers with housing and employment assistance in a supportive and self-esteem-boosting environment of mentoring groups.
