Coatesville’s Heritage Day Continues the Centennial Celebrations

By

Get ready for a great day out! as Saturday is going to be a fun event for the entire family. Following the series of celebrations that have taken place over the last six months, the city of Coatesville is continuing to commemorate its centennial with Heritage Day.

As this will be one of the last events marking the 100th anniversary of the city, officials have gone into overdrive to organize a myriad of events that will span the entire day.

The day includes numerous historical tours while music and food will start at 10 am and last until 4 pm at Gateway and Ash parks, First to Third avenues, Lincoln Highway, and Harmony Street.

The festivities will start at the Lukens National Historic District with tours of the grounds where the nation’s first female industrialist, Rebecca Lukens, worked and lived with her family. The Lukens Executive Office Building will provide maps and a list of events, which will include something for everyone.

From there, you will be able to stroll down memory lane at the Coatesville Sports Hall of Fame in the Gordon School gym, and while there, listen to Ross Kershey as he presents his “History of Coatesville” talk, followed by the former South Coatesville Mayor James ’talk on his view of the last 100 years in Coatesville’s history. There will also be tours of 11 historic churches in the surrounding area.

If you are a fan of Bruce Monday, do not miss his books signing at 1 pm at the Lukens Executive Office Building, or alternatively go and listen to the Lukens Band perform in front of the LEOB.

For good food and activities for the kids, head on down to Ash Park where the party will be ongoing all day, while Gateway Park is hosting a display of antique cars.
