4.9.2015 Handicraters6A coming Chester County presentation aims to uplift families facing special circumstances and unique challenges to leaving a legacy for loved ones with special needs.

New law changes and important topics on everything from estate planning to special needs trusts, guardianship and alternatives will be covered on Wednesday, Sept. 30, when local disability-focused nonprofit employment support organization Handi-Crafters presents “Special Needs Trusts and Planning for Your Loved One’s Legacy” at its offices in the Bentley Building in Thorndale.

The 7 to 8:30 p.m. free program will feature a pair of area professionals with specific expertise in special needs planning, and light refreshments will be served.

Steve Potts, a West Chester resident and attorney at Herr, Potts and Potts handles a variety of matters, including estate planning, estate and trust administration, federal and state income tax, real estate, family law and elder law. He brings experience with a brother who works at Handi-Crafters alongside membership in the Chester County and Pennsylvania bar associations and service on the leadership teams at Bournelyf Special Camp and ARC of Chester County.

Mark Prowell is president of Prowell Financial Management in Exton and draws from extensive experience in financial and estate planning that has benefitted the Handi-Crafters Foundation during his five years as a director.

The recently passed federal Achieving a Better Life Experience (ABLE) Act and what it means to individuals with disabilities and their families will also be covered during the presentation.
