Today is the birthday of county singer Hank Williams (1923) and the anniversary of the Battle of Antietam, fought along the banks of Antietam Creek near Sharpsburg, Maryland (1862). With nearly 23,000 casualties, the Civil War battle was the bloodiest single day in American military history.
