After wrestling over a residency requirement for at least the past two city managers’ tenures, Coatesville this week gained a permanent leader and a soon-to-be member of the community when it hired locally connected administrator Michael Trio.

“I’d like to do a great job for the city,” he said in a Daily Local News report of his inaugural City Council meeting. “I know it will be a challenge. … It’s a challenge that I’m really looking forward to, so I thank you for the opportunity.”

Trio has a year to move within Coatesville city limits from Newtown Square. He brings to the position a West Chester University urban planning degree, corporate land planning experience as a King of Prussia-based O’Neill Properties executive and public service as Delaware County’s Newtown Township manager. He will receive $110,000 for the Coatesville city manager post.

“Welcome to the city,” Councilman Ed Simpson said in the article. “Unfortunately, I’ve said that many times over the 12 years I’ve been sitting up here. Hopefully we won’t have to say it for a long time.”
