Uncertainty for Local Employees as BB&T Buys Susquehanna Bancshares

Fortune 500 company BB&T Corp. has completed its $2.5 billion acquisition of Susquehanna Bancshares, but the future employment of hundreds of employees in the Lititz based bank is still uncertain.

According to a source close to the deal, a number of Susquehanna Bancshares back-office staff received notice from BB&T saying that their positions will be cut. However, BB&T is working to see if some of them could be transferred to different positions in the bank.

“We have been very successful at minimizing job reductions by giving displaced associates first consideration for all job openings,” BB&T spokesman David White said. “For positions that will not be continued, associates will receive at least 60-days notice. If a displaced associate is unable to find a position within BB&T, a severance package and outplacement services will be available.”

Teva Takes a Majority Stock Position in Immuneering Corp.

Teva Pharmaceutical Industries entered into an agreement on August 3 to acquire a 51 percent equity stake in privately held Immuneering Corp. This move comes only a week after Teva bought Allergan’s generic pharmaceutical business for $40.5 billion.

As part of the agreement, Israel based Teva, with its Northern American headquarters in North Wales, gains exclusive rights to the genomic analysis company’s analytics platforms, developed to advance research and treatments for diseases related to the central nervous system.

“Their ability to cut through, link and interpret enormous and disparate data-sets is outstanding,” said Michael Hayden, Teva’s chief scientific officer and president for global research and development. The hope is that this purchase will help Teva to better “match the right patient with the right medicine at the right time.”

Saint-Gobain’s New Headquarters to See Employees in October

Saint-Gobainc and its CertainTeed subsidiary will begin moving 800 employees in its new state-of-the-art Malvern headquarters in October.

Saint-Gobain’s relocation to the 65-acre Chester County campus from Valley Forge will position the global building materials manufacturer for greater growth and expansion in North America.

The new campus will also allow the company’s local research team to be integrated with the company’s operations team on one site, bringing around 120 additional employees to Chester County.

Saint-Gobain says that with so many of its products in one place it will create a “living laboratory” where its research team can measure the impact its products have on a real workspace environment.

“This headquarters marks a step change in Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed’s ability to serve our North American markets, and it will be a shining example of a 21st century manufacturing business,” said John Crowe, President and CEO of Saint-Gobain and CertainTeed Corporations.

Conshohocken to See Over $500 Million in New Development

Conshohocken is about to get a transformation with more than $500 million of construction projects in the pipeline or already going through the approval process.

The work should dramatically transform this tiny borough along the Schuylkill River, with more than 1.27 million square feet of office development, the construction of a hotel and nearly 1,000 apartments, as well as restaurants and other ancillary amenities planned to service its growing residential and office population.

There is strong demand for new or newly rehabilitated office space in the suburbs and brokers often point to the quick lease of Crosspoint at Valley Forge on Swedesford Road in Wayne, as an example of how much tenants want state-of-the-art space.

“The reason Conshohocken is receiving so much developer attention is simple,” said Scott Gabrielsen, an office broker with Binswanger, “There are only a few sites that can accommodate a Class A build-to-suit and Conshohocken has five of them.
