“A vision of A Better World
through values, technology,
and the power of Doing Good.”

The world would be a better place if people would just starting playing games — one game in particular, actually. Doing good in a Facebook game is reaping real-world rewards for the 3 million gamers who’ve already experienced A Better World, created in Wayne by ToonUps, and have performed 35 million acts of kindness.

ToonUps
ToonUps began as a provider of fun, animated training software and quiz tools.

“I believe that the greatest joy we can experience is through selflessly helping others, and this game provides a fun and easy way to experience this joy,” Delivering Happiness Psychologist Matthew Della Porta said in a Digital Journal report.

The underlying goal of the virtual world is to encourage positive thinking that leads to positive actions that then spill over into the real world, because when people do good, they feel good. The acts of kindness also spur real-world giving to nonprofit organizations.

So whether a player sends a get-well note to real sick children, eliminates a negative thought, encourages another player, thanks someone or expresses some other act of kindness, “all good done in the game goes toward meeting monthly goals that, when met, raise awareness and release funds to nonprofit causes,” the article stated. The “… 35 million acts of good in A Better World have been done by players to support feeding families around the world, surgeries enabling children to walk, coats given to homeless children, anti-bullying education and cancer screenings for underprivileged women.”
