Brandywine Health Foundation Garden Party Rings In Strawberry Festival
The Daily Local News spotlighted last week’s Brandywine Health Foundation Garden Party hosted by Robert and Jennifer McNeil’s at the couple’s Springbrook Farm home south of Coatesville.
The annual event drew 478 people and raised $170,961, $10,000 more than last year, and saw Coatesville Area High School senior Ronjae Jones (pictured above) presented with the Harry Lewis Jr. Scholarship.
The scholarship provides $5,000 toward college tuition each year for up to four years, an amount that will come in handy when Jones enrolls at Morehouse College in Atlanta this fall to study film and political science.
According to the Daily Local article published Friday,
“The student (Jones) has been selected first of all because of his academic achievement, also because he’s been actively involved in Coatesville Youth Initiative, and finally because he has demonstrated a commitment to improve the community in which he lives,” said James Manning, chairman of the Brandywine Health Foundation’s board of directors.
“I’m truly honored to have been nominated for this award,” Jones said. “My involvement in the Coatesville Youth Initiative has really helped me get to this point. If it wasn’t for them breaking me out of my shell … I would definitely not be here, and I would not be receiving such a scholarship with a name that holds much power and much importance to me.”
Jones is the fourth recipient of the annual scholarship.
