Denise Day: YMCA of Greater Brandywine Offers Members More Locations, Facilities, Programs

Kennett Area YMCA

Main Line Today caught up with Chester County’s Denise Day last week, who is heading up the YMCA of Greater Brandywine. This new organization has been formed out the recent merger of Upper Main Line Y and YMCA of Brandywine. The combined company now runs nine facilities and has over 80,000 members in locations ranging from Berwyn to Kennett Square. During the very informative interview Denise Day was able outline some of the key elements of the merger.

The merger was originally considered as a way of making the organization more efficient by combining the financial systems, human resources, IT and other departments. It gives existing members of both organizations a greater variety of locations and facilities. The merger also offers expansion opportunities with plans for a new pool in the Brandywine branch, as well as creating more room in the Coatesville branch.

The merger will also benefit kids throughout the region, as they can share programs to get the best out of each location’s features. For example, more than 1,000 children from Chester County are going to be coming together in the Brandy Olympics in July. By creating a fun and even more diverse environment for kids, the merger can help to relieve some of the pressures that they face in everyday life.

Denise Day also mentioned at the end of the interview when asked what she would do if she had $10 million to put on any project she wanted, that she would use the funds to help the people in the city of Coatesville by creating programs that address the issues that face the city’s children, to make a major improvement in their lives.
