It’s quite a loathsome return to winter weather here in Chester County. That’s fine by lovers of great writing, and we’re bringing you some of our favorite articles suitable for your indoors enjoyment. Check them out below:

  • Bar Exam, the Standard to Become a Lawyer, Comes Under Fire“, by Elizabeth Olson, from NYT
    • Last summer bar exam test takers posted the lowest scores in a decade and it’s sparking debate around the exam itself. Have universities lowered the standard for admittance to their law schools? Or is the bar exam an outdated, inconsistent predictor of lawyering skills that should be obliged to change with the times? Also, find out which state does not require its lawyers to pass the exam.

  • Harper Lee’s Abandoned True-Crime Novel“, by Casey N. Cep, from The New Yorker
    • News of the second Harper Lee novel, “Go Set a Watchman”, lighted the internet something fierce a few weeks ago. Now, one writer is exploring the possibility that Lee may have started, and finished, a true-crime novel ala Truman Capote’s “In Cold Blood”.

  • At Kodak, Clinging to a Future Beyond Film“, by Quentin Hardy, from NYT
    • What’s going to happen to Kodak? Quentin Hardy looks at the long history of America’s oldest tech company, their recent CEO and his move to wring money from Kodak’s enormous patent portfolio. Just a few years outside bankruptcy, can the Rochester center of twentieth century innovation make itself relevant again?

As always, please feel free to comment with responses to the Covered Bridge stories or suggestions of your own!
