In November of 2014, Downingtown’s STEM Academy topped the list of top public high school in Pennsylvania for the second year in a row.
According to the Daily Local News:
“The profiles cover 2,947 public schools, including all charter schools. The profiles measures academic achievement, promotion and graduation rates, academic growth and how well a school is closing the achievement gap.
“Scores are based largely on the results of the Pennsylvania System of School Assessment tests, PSSA, the Keystone Exams and the amount of growth students have shown in one year as measured by the Pennsylvania Value Added Assessment System.”
The STEM Academy is a magnet school run by the Downingtown School District. The school 750 plus students come from both Downingtown East and West High Schools for the school day, and returns them to their home high school for band, choir or athletics.
The school’s curriculum includes a heavy focus on science, technology, engineering and mathematics.
