The historic and the modern combine for an inquisitive look beyond the glamorous front doors of some of West Chester’s oldest homes on Saturday as part of this year’s West Chester Public Library Holiday Home Tour.

“It’s been hectic, getting ready. We’re looking forward to seeing people’s reaction to our home and to how we’ve blended the new and the old with our three-story addition,” said Lisa Martin, owner of one of 10 historic homes being showcased on the tour, in a Daily Local News preview of the event.

From Eastlake to Queen Anne and Victorian styles, the mostly row houses and twins have their origins in the mid-to-late Nineteenth Century when the railroad ushered in a rush of new industrial workers, the article noted. Chester County Commissioner Terrence Farrell’s home will also be open to touring visitors.

All but one home on the 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. open house tour is within walking distance. The proceeds raised from ticket sales will be invested in “growing teens and tweens programming, bringing in authors and providing materials that visitors want to read, both print and digital.”
