Kibow Biotech – a Newtown Square based biotechnology business specializing in dietary supplements – was selected to participate in the Buzz of BIO at the 2014 BIO International Convention, set for June 23-26 in San Diego, Ca.

The event is hosted by the Biotechnology Industry Organization (BIO).  Kibow is among 40 U.S. companies selected to participate in the “Pipeline of Promise or Technologies of Tomorrow” category.

Kibow, founded in 1997, is considered to be an emerging biotech company.  It produces Kibow® Flora, a scientifically formulated probiotic immune system booster, as well as patented, proprietary probiotics for maintaining healthy kidney function. Its veterinary Azodyl and human Renadyl products are recommended for individuals with kidney failure.  Renadyl is marketed in the U.S. and Canada.

The World Health Organization considers probiotics, a natural way to boost the immune system, to be the next-most important immune defense system when commonly prescribed antibiotics are rendered useless by antibiotic resistance.

“The decade of research efforts on the concept of balancing the gut microbiome with probiotics (beneficial health impacting microbes) is finally gaining more recognition,” said Dr. Natarajan Ranganathan, cofounder and chief research and development scientist at Kibow.

He said a scientific basis and rationale for “a shift from human genome to gut microbiome” has been established only recently, and the process of using it to address various healthcare problems is just beginning.  Kibow produces “enteric uremic toxin reduction technology” (Enteric Dialysis®).  This dietary supplement product, in combination with the standard-of-care treatment for primary diseases such as diabetes, hypertension and other related conditions, may help delay the progression to dialysis status.

Kibow reports the product also possesses an excellent potential to reduce the frequency or duration of dialysis, affording better outcomes and saving billions of healthcare dollars worldwide.   Kibow and its research and development team have also developed a proprietary blend of prebiotics for multitargeted wellness application.
