Phoenixville-headquartered Customers Bank will soon become one of the region’s first institutions to add its credit and debit cards to Apple Pay, allowing local customers to use their iPhones or iPads to checkout at retailers who accept the tech giant’s new payment system.

Only Wells Fargo, Bank of America, M&T Bank, Susquehanna Bank and Tompkins VIST have already joined Apple Pay, according to a recent Government Technology report.

“As our customers live their increasingly digital lives, we continue to evaluate new innovative technologies, prioritizing payment safety, quality of service and ease of use for our customers,” virtual channels leader for Wells Fargo Jim Smith said in the article.
