Twin Brook Winery listed for Sale at $2.9m as Harvest Season Begins

The grape harvest is over and wine making is well under way at Pennsylvania’s wineries, which are also planning a wide variety of music and seasonal activities leading into the Christmas holiday.

The Pennsylvania Winery Association advocates for more than 100 member wineries and 11 wine trails who are part of the state’s growing multi-billion dollar wine industry.  Events at Chester County wineries include live music with Chris Ferron at Flickerwood Wine Cellars in Oxford from 7 to 10 p.m. Friday, Oct. 17.

The Chadds Ford Winery is hosting Spiced Apple Weekends with Trick or Treat Tastings on both Saturdays and Sundays this fall.

The Brandywine Valley Wine Trail includes six local wineries – Black Walnut Winery, Borderland, Kreutz Creek Vineyards, Paradocx Vineyard, Penns Woods Winery and Patone Cellars.  They are hosting festivals, “Think Pink, Drink Pink” in support of the Delware Breast Cancer Coalition, and holiday activities, listed here.

Many of these wineries are family owned and thriving in some of the most fertile grape-growing land on the East Coast.  The PWA says Pennsylvania ranks fifth nationally in the amount of grapes grown, seventh in wine production, and seventh in the number of licensed wineries.

The national wine journal Wine Business is reporting last winter’s extremely cold temperatures and the late arrival of spring have had a major impact on the quantity and quality of the eastern wine grape harvest, although southeastern Pennsylvania benefited from warm, dry weather this past summer.

If you’re lucky enough to catch a busy local wine maker while on the tasting trail, they will likely soon have predictions for the 2014 vintage from their wineries.

Fans of local wine and the Twin Brook Winery in Gap are also collecting predictions about the future of this popular 67-acre well-established winery at 5697 Strasburg Road, just over the Chester County border.

Owner/attorney Richard Caplan has listed the winery, its 1750 stone home, the elegant barn and tasting area, production facility, greenhouses and sweeping vineyard for $2.9 million.  Sotheby’s International is the broker.

The winery, managed by winemaker Tim Jobe and his wife Melissa, is making wine and running events as usual without interruption.
