Blind Man’s Vision Brings Braille Music To The World
Never mind that he’s blind; Tredyffrin Township’s William R. McCann has spent the past two decades living out a pioneering vision to make Braille music more accessible, and today his Dancing Dots Braille Music Technology reaches low-vision musicians throughout the nation and across 50 countries.
“There have been companies in other countries that have come and gone, who were trying to develop something like what we have done. There’s a project in Europe now that sells software that does parts of what we do. But we’re the only solution that totally integrates print, Braille music, the music cues and the verbal description of each element,” McCann told Keystone Edge during a recent interview.
The story of Dancing Dots is not only one of incredible vision but also of community investment.
Finding the first bit of money and persuading someone besides myself that this was actually possible — that there really is a market, as much of a niche as it is, and there really is a need throughout our country and around the world,” he said in the article.
