Pharmaceuticals and medical research are big industries in Chester County.

WAYNE, PA – A partnership between Chester County companies is aiming to launch a new medical device that will figure out what the heck you did to your knee on the very first visit to the doctor.

Safeguard Scientifics in Wayne is the leading investor in a new $11.6 million round of funding for Trice Medical of Wayne and King of Prussia to bring to market its mi-eye needle diagnostic product for orthopedic injuries, according to a Philadelphia Business Journal article.

If approved by the U.S. Food and Drug Administration, the mi-eye could expand Trice’s workforce from seven to 27 yet this year in order to get the product into doctors’ offices.

“It’s basically cellphone technology integrated with hypodermic needle technology,” Trice Co-Founder, Chairman and CEO Jeffrey F. O’Donnell Sr. said in the report.

“[The mi-eye] provides the injured patients with an answer to their injury during their first visit to the orthopedic surgeon’s office. It will shrink the time from injury to recovery and reduce cost to the health care system.”
