Wyncote Golf Club in Lower Oxford township has been consistently ranked one of the best courses in the U.S. and this week it’s celebrating its 30th anniversary, writes Steven Hoffman for the Chester County Press.

The renowned golf course, which gets its influence from Scotland, coincided with the “Tiger Boom” of the 1990s. Golf Digest at one point ranked it as the third-best new public course in the entire country.

Through post-9/11 anxiety, an economic recession, and a pandemic, the course prevailed. However, its history extends beyond its founding in 1993. The land originally belonged to owner Jim Pepple’s father. A sprawling 3,000 acres have been used for farmland since its purchase in 1957.

Pepple took over the farm in 1973 and by 1986 he decided to follow his dreams of turning the land into a world-class golf course. To this day, the course is lauded by publications and associations for its amenities as well as for providing a unique golfing experience.

Throughout the years, it has hosted professional golfers such as John Daly, Jim Furyk, and Sergio Garcia. The golf club is planning on revamping its dining space using locally sourced wood from southern Chester County. They also plan on remodeling space for private events such as graduation parties, NFL draft parties, or birthday parties.
